Food tours bring zest to Wellington

Wellington’s history, art and architecture are woven into the fascinating Zest Food Tours that run daily in the New Zealand capital.

Operating for a minimum of two people, the walking tours explore some of the city’s best food options, from cafes to artisan producers and gourmet restaurants.

Capital Tastes includes a behind-the-scenes peek at gelato-maker Gelissimo, and taste flavours such as lemon-passionfruit pavlova and other inventive combinations.

At Nikau, one of the city’s best cafes, try some kiwi-inspired flavours such as a feijoa Danish (delicious!) or its famous kedgeree, which we’re told will never be taken off the menu due to its popularity.

Diving into some of Wellington’s coolest laneways, in the former Hannah’s shoe factory precinct, guests will stop at the Wellington Chocolate Factory which specialises in single-origin chocolate from far and wide: Peru, Cuba, Dominica, Samoa, Papua New Guinea and Bougainville.

The flavours here will make you rethink your tastes in chocolate; try the vegan coconut milk flavour, salted brittle caramel, craft beer or chilli lime nuts for chocolate with zing.

Other tours include a gourmet tour that ends with a two-course lunch with matched New Zealand wines at one of Wellington’s top restaurants, and a full-day tour to the Martinborough wine region (limited to four guests only).
