Located in the Flinders Ranges in South Australia just over 400kms from Adelaide, Wilpena Pound Resort is set to open new luxury safari tent accommodation offering an authentic Outback experience under stunning South Australian skies. Due to be opened by September this year, 15 luxury en-suited safari tents will offer families a new ‘glamping’ experience. The family tents will be configured with additional bedding to sleep four guests, allowing families to come and enjoy luxury camping in the Flinders Ranges.
The tents will offer quality amenities, daily room servicing, hair dryers, power outlets, reading lamps, but no televisions – allowing families make the most of their time together. Guests can enjoy a range of touring options to explore the region including guided walks and 4WD excursions into the area. Air Wilpena also offers scenic flights over the Pound and as far as Lake Eyre.
For years the Flinders Ranges has drawn visitors from far and wide, attracted to the unique beauty of this landscape with its indigenous history, ancient geological formations and abundant wildlife. At the heart of this is Wilpena Pound, a natural amphitheatre 17km long and 7km wide shaped by the weathering and uplifting of land over time.
The building of the new safari tents, which commenced mid-June this year will be the first major upgrade to the property since it was purchased by Indigenous Business Australia in 2012 and is supported by two substantial Government grants, from the Commonwealth Government Tourism Industry Regional Development Fund, and the South Australian Government Tourism Development Support Scheme.
The Restaurant is open for breakfast and dinner daily, offering modern Australian cuisine with a touch of the Outback, while Poddy Dodger’s Bar offers more bistro-style meals and becomes the hub of the Resort in the evenings, where tales of the day’s activities are shared over a beer or two.
