Luxury hotel group, FRHI Hotels & Resorts together with California financier Richard C. Blum and his family, have announced the purchase of the historic Claremont Hotel Club & Spa in Berkley, California. The purchase supports FRHI’s growth strategy of acquiring luxury hotels in key leading markets. Multi-million-dollar renovations are expected to begin soon as part of an investment project which will see the hotel’s facilities updated and enhancements made to the property’s stunning architecture, while preserving and protecting the character and charm of the Claremont. Once the revitalisation is complete, the hotel will join the Fairmont Hotels & Resorts collection.
FRHI Hotels & Resorts are the parent company of luxury and upscale hotel brands Raffles Hotels & Resorts, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts and Swissôtel Hotels & Resorts.
Built in 1915, the Claremont offers 279 luxury guestrooms and suites and is ideally situated at the base of the Claremont Canyon Regional Preserve, overlooking scenic San Francisco Bay. A grand property with a castle-like architecture, the hotel is rich in history and will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2015. The property also includes a Social & Tennis Club with more than 1500 loyal members who enjoy the hotel’s amenities, fitness facilities and healthy lifestyle programmes.
