Anantara Hotels, Resorts & Spas has expanded its portfolio in Africa with the opening of a second resort in Mozambique, Anantara Medjumbe Island Resort & Spa. The exclusive 12-key property is located on a tiny island in the Quirimbas Archipelago off the country’s northern coast.
Its thatched Beach Pool Villas enjoy direct beach access, private pools, hammocks and interiors that blend comfort and luxury with Anantara’s signature modern amenities.
The resort’s Jahazi Restaurant dishes up everything from local specialties to refined western classics, including feasts of locally caught seafood. Alternatively, for a unique dining experience, guests can opt for Dining by Design, choosing from a selection of gourmet options or collaborating with a dedicated chef to craft their own menu, with dinner served at a secluded table for two.
The Anantara Spa is a private retreat featuring a treatment suite and ensuite bathroom. Treatments include the Glacial Marble Massage which combines the wellness properties of cooling stones with the ancient healing powers of touch; the Moya Crystal Experience with salt poultice exfoliation, a crystal gem massage, followed by hair and scalp therapy; and the indulgent ‘Me Time’ personalised journey.
Anantara Medjumbe Island Resort & Spa is the second Anantara in Mozambique, following Anantara Bazaruto Island Resort & Spa which joined the portfolio in December 2013. A third resort will be added next year – the 24-villa Matemo Island. It is currently closed for refurbishment and when it reopens will be rebranded to Anantara Matemo Island Resort. All three properties are part of Minor Hotel Group’s long-term strategic partnership with Rani Investment LLC.
