Six Senses Laamu will be reintroducing another Aqua Season from 1 May to 31 October. Turtle nesting season has already started and the Maldivian resort looks forward to welcoming the little hatchlings to the world this Aqua Season. The series of events this year include the celebration of International Surfing Day, World Fitness Day and World Turtle Day. A team of experts – including celebrity chefs, an Aquafitness specialist, resident DJs, visiting spa practitioners and the Manta Trust – will engage with guests and hosts and help increase awareness of the importance of conserving marine life.
Surfing Season in Six Senses Laamu – Surfing Season lasts from April to October. “Off the hook” waters would be from May to September. The Yin Yang, one of the most famous surf breaks in Maldives, breaks on the outer reef of the local island of Hithadhoo, only a few minutes from the resort. Trips to the Yin Yang can be organised on a daily basis and most of the time, guests can have the waves to themselves. For those eager to learn how to surf, a smaller wave breaks just by the resort’s beach.
International Surfing Day – Every year around the summer solstice (21 June), Laamu commemorates International Surfing Day. It is a day in celebration of surfing and a special opportunity for all to pay homage to nature for providing such a magical environment. The resort team, together with partner, Ocean Dimensions, invites the children from the Maamendhoo local school and their Surf Club to join surfer guests on this day. As part of the sustainable surfing concept, a representative team of Six Senses Laamu will visit their island and install segregation bins to their school and give a small presentation on the importance of recycling.
Turtle nesting and hatching season – Between March and July, female Green turtles visit the beach to lay their eggs. The Turtle Team of hosts is on call 24 hours in order to ensure that these little ones make it safely to the ocean. Special events took place on World Turtle Day on May 23.
Aquafitness – From July 9 to 19, we are happy to welcome Aquafit specialist Nancy Durrenberger back. Nancy will be conducting a series of fun and exciting water based fitness classes for guests which include aquafit, aquagym, aqua jogging and aqua power. She will also offer two sunset aqua yoga sessions during her stay.
Visiting practitioners at the Six Senses Spa – This Aqua Season, Dr. Gopal, Jill Banwell, Claude Simard and Khun Sommai will be welcomed to the Six Senses Spa. All experts in their respective field, they will be offering their services to enhance guests’ sense of wellbeing. Dr. Gopal specialises in Ayurveda, yoga and wellness, and is known for relieving and correcting persistent physical problems. Jill is an energy-healing specialist who takes great pleasure in gently guiding people to experience a deeper, more harmonious level of life. Claude has extensive expertise in helping people to recover from different kinds of physical and emotional issues. He uses his highly developed sensitivity and intuition to enable people to access deeper levels of healing. Khun Sommai is an experienced therapist and a yoga and qi gong instructor, who also specialises in acupuncture and tai chi.
World Wellness Day – Being true to the resort’s core value ‘Pioneering Wellnes’ this year, we are participating in the global celebration of World Wellness Day on 13 June. Because this day is dedicated to wellness, the Six Senses Spa experts will be offering complimentary classes throughout the day which include aerial yoga, island running, tai chi and many more.
The Manta Trust – From April through November, a team of The Manta Trust will be on site performing research and helping raise greater awareness and understanding of the importance of these majestic animals. Guests will have the opportunity to dive with the team at ‘Manta point’, a manta ray-cleaning station only a few minutes from the resort, and be able to participate in the ‘Manta researcher for a day’ programme.
Celebrity chefs – Have you ever met a surfing chef? Six Senses is very excited to welcome Chef Miki for four dinners and a chance to surf with him from 28 July to 5 August. He has been cooking and managing restaurants in Japan, Maldives and Australia for more than 25 years. From 16 to 23 August, the Manganaro – Merrett duo will offer three signature dinners during their stay.
Resident DJs – This Aqua Season, the resort will welcome back two DJs that really know how to create a magical musical journey and make sunsets in Chill Bar unique. From 10 May to 6 August, Nacho Sotomayor will be on the decks. Nacho’s signature sounds create unique emotions and bring out the most intense feelings from every Maldivian sunset. From 8 August to 3 November, Dezarate will add an electrical vibe to the Chill Bar with his Balearic sounds and soft beats.
