An international line up of renowned chefs and wine connoisseurs have been announced to showcase the aromatic flavours South African food has to offer at the Taste of Melbourne festival taking place from 12-15 November at Albert Park.
The festival’s South African Garden will be a star-studded affair with South African Tsogo Sun Chef and MasterChef Judge Benny Masekwameng, Five Hundred at The Saxon’s Executive Chef David Higgs, MasterChef winner Brent Owens and original Aussie surfer-chef Hayden Quinn, joining forces to present the best of South Africa’s food and wine.
The chefs will showcase a range of South African-inspired dishes by hosting a number of Masterclasses in the South African Garden that will take place throughout the festival. Traditional Bunny Chow, Bobotie and Lamb Potjie will be amongst some of the great dishes guests can see come to life.
Respected wine connoisseur, judge and writer Mike Bennie, will also be showcasing a range of award-winning South African wines with wine masterclasses that will give guests the opportunity to drink in his wisdom.
The South African Garden will offer guests an entertaining and interactive experience that incorporates live performers with world-class food and wine, to bring a small piece of South Africa’s unique and diverse culture to Melbourne.
Whether it’s delicate dishes, smooth wines or a traditional South African Braais, the South African Garden will offer something that will satisfy every tastebud as visitors immerse themselves in the sounds and flavours of South Africa.
For those foodies wanting to get the insider’s guide to cooking the perfect South African dish, Chef Benny will also host a cooking demonstration in the Electrolux Taste Theatre, featuring his grilled lamb with ratatouille braised spinach, ground cashew nuts and crumbed mealie pap recipe.
