With an increase in arrivals to Ecuador, the country’s hotel development is rising to meet the extra demand. Pushed by a wide array of incentives generated by the National Government, hotel investment is booming in Ecuador in anticipation of increased arrivals, in particular of high-spending luxury tourists.
The country is currently soaring over US$350 million in new hotel investment, mainly in first class hotels and accommodations, for a total of over 1,800 rooms to be added within the next 3 years.
Among the projects expected for the coming years are the Swissôtel Guayaquil, the Wyndham Grand Condor at Quito airport, the Sheraton Cuenca and the Guayaquil Marriott.
Quito’s airport – the Mariscal Sucre International Airport – was recently awarded South America’s Leading Airport at the World Tourism Awards 2015, attracting a number of important hotel projects. Upcoming hotel developments around Quito’s new international airport include:
- Wyndham Quito Airport Gran Condor – Wyndham Hotel Group’s hotel will offer a full-service, 146-room property in early 2016. Services and amenities will include an onsite restaurant, lobby bar, pool, gym and spa facilities, as well as four meeting rooms.
- Hotel Eurobuilding Express – Eurobuilding Venezuela will open its five-star hotel near the airport in early 2017. The property will include 14 deluxe rooms and a presidential suite, and further expand to 70 additional rooms and luxury services.
- Holiday Inn Quito Airport – Located less than two kilometres from the airport, the hotel will offer 130 rooms and will target both business and leisure travel. Amenities will include an indoor swimming pool, restaurant, fitness centre and 550-square-metres of meeting space. The hotel is scheduled to open its doors in 2016.
- Hilton San Patricio – The Hilton Group’s new hotel will be located in Cumbayá, an intermediate area between the airport and the city, the Hilton San Patricio is estimated to be finished between 2017 and 2018, and will boast 150 rooms.
