American Airlines is increasing services from Los Angeles with 20 new daily flights. The airline will build two new gates and hire 200 additional workers to support the expansion, the carrier representatives have said.
Nine of the flights will be new routes for American Airlines at LAX, including services to Delta Air Lines’ hubs in Seattle and Minneapolis. Other new year-round daily routes include New Orleans, Kansas City and Hartford; in addition to new seasonal services to Anchorage, Durango, Colorado, and Jackson Hole. In all, representing a 10 per cent increase in flights to an average 220 departures a day.
American Airlines is the largest airline at Los Angeles but only by a small margin with Delta; AA has a 20 per cent share, just ahead of Delta’s 18 per cent.
“LAX is well-positioned for greater growth and I’m pleased that American Airlines is helping to expand our global reach,” said Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti.
