For those wanting to experience the spectacular natural floorshow that occurs following the flooding of Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre, APT has announced a new 7-day Lake Eyre & Flinders Ranges small group 4WD adventure.

With a choice of 16 departures available between March and April 2016, there will be plenty of opportunities to witness this rare occurrence, brought about following recent heavy rainfall

Located in the deserts of northern South Australia and covering thousands of hectares, the Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre water basin is the lowest natural point in the country. On the rare occasion that it floods it becomes the largest salt lake in Australia, taking on a characteristic pink hue and creating a natural masterpiece that attracts a vast array of bird life including white pelicans and finches and a vast array of flora.

Travelling aboard one of APT’s custom built 4WD drive coaches in small groups of just 20 people, guests will visit Port Augusta, Lake Eyre, Birdsville, the Flinders Ranges, Wilpena Pound, Clare Valley and Adelaide.

The first port of call on the tour is a visit to the award-winning Wadlata Outback Centre in Port Augusta. Then it’s on to Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre via Marree to see the lake in full flood. Guests will journey the rugged and remote Oodnadatta Track; have the opportunity to walk on the salt flats; and they’ll also enjoy an included flight to experience the deepest part of the lake from the air. Guests will also enjoy a stay at the iconic Birdsville Hotel from where they will board a flight to view the Birdsville Track from the air and also enjoy a return flight to Marree,

Other highlights include the chance to explore the fascinating geological site of Brachina Gorge; the chance to see the Aroona Dam; a drive through the ghost town of Farina; journey through the Flinders Ranges to Wilpena Pound; a visit to the Clare Valley to enjoy lunch at Skillogalee Winery; and travelling along the RM Williams Way. The final night includes a farewell dinner and an overnight stay at The Sebel Playford Adelaide Hotel.

Priced from $4495 per person, twin share, included is all accommodation, transport and meals, the services of a dedicated Driver-Guide, all sightseeing, scenic flights, park and excursion fees, and transfers to and from the airport.
