Nestled in the foothills of Stellenbosch’s idyllic Jonkershoek Valley and steeped in a history dating back to 1692, the 300 year old Lanzerac Wine Estate is synonymous with old-world charm and rich Cape heritage. A mere five minutes from the historic town of Stellenbosch, the 155 hectare working wine estate boasts dramatic mountain ranges, endless rows of lush vineyards and hectares of award-winning landscaped gardens shaded by giant Oak trees.

After her sale in 2012, the Old Grande Dame of Stellenbosch has been going through a transformation, boasting the refurbishment of her rooms and suites through the course of 2015 and 2016. The exquisitely styled newly appointed rooms offer a blend of period grandeur and contemporary style. 2015 graciously provided 19 newly refurbished bedrooms, with the project commencing in April 2016. This year will hold the very exciting project of the full renovation to the Lanzerac Spa and the refurbishment of the following two blocks of rooms.

The new ownership have embarked on a large scale capital expenditure, which will be rolled out in a series of stages over the next couple of years. Some of the items completed thus far include:

Phase 1 of the refurbishment plan was the complete remodelling and redesign of the Lanzerac Wine Tasting Room, boasting a beautifully appointed space to taste Lanzerac’s award-winning and acclaimed wines. The Tasting Room also offers an adjoining Delicatessen, where diners can enjoy the very best in fresh artisan produce. Phase 1 completed December 2013.

Phase 2 of the refurbishment plan was the full reconstruction of Lanzerac’s function venue, The Cellar Hall and the upgrade of the Manor House boardrooms. Lanzerac is a sought after venue for hosting high profile events, weddings, corporate conferences, management meetings and launches, boasting premium venues and top of the line facilities. The Manor House has two boardrooms, now with high quality facilities – solid yellow wood tables and leather, high back conference chairs. The newly renovated Cellar Hall offers delegates exquisite amenities and state of the art facilities. Phase 2 completed October 2014.

Phase 3 of the refurbishment plan is now the full refurbishment of all the hotel rooms, taking place in 2015 and 2016. The estate has completed 19 rooms thus far. Rooms will boast newly purchased amenities (towels, bedding, softs), five-star conveniences and comforts, and original antique pieces and artwork. The latter part of 2015 also marked the renovation of the main pool area.

Phase 4 of the refurbishment plan will be the complete remodelling of the Lanzerac Spa, to be completed in 2016, from 1 April for approximately seven months. The refurbishment of a further two blocks of rooms will occur from April to end November 2016 too.
