The historic Pera Palace Hotel Jumeirah has unveiled a selection of special dishes in homage to the stars of yesteryear including Ernest Hemmingway and Greta Garbo who once graced its rooms and lobbies with their presence.
Since the hotel first opened its doors in 1892, the hotel has welcomed an impressive list of guests and the Historical Dinner Menu, offers four courses, each devoted to a famous personality.
The starter, Demoiselle de l’Océan, is inspired by the White House’s menu of 1961 as selected by Jacqueline Onassis during her time as First Lady. The combination of pear pickles, avocado and fennel sauce takes you to the eclectic Amalfi Coast; renowned as one of Jacqueline Onassis’ favourite spots on earth. The widow of US President, John F. Kennedy, stayed at Pera Palace Hotel Jumeirah in 1983.
The antipasti is named after renowned movie star Greta Garbo, who stayed for 50 days in 1924. Salmon a’la Garbo mixes salmon in tagliatelle with a truffle cream sauce, and will be a perfect company for a glass of crisp white wine.
The main course, Lamb Duo, is influenced by Ernest Hemingway from one of his favourite meals in 1923. In 1922 Hemingway arrived at The Pera Palace Hotel as a war correspondent, and wrote his famous novel, The snows of Kilimanjaro, during his stay.
Sarah Bernhardt provided the inspiration for the strawberry crumble dessert. As a master of French cuisine and an expert in cooking techniques, she was familiar with glamorous suppers. She gave her custom for weeks at The Pera Palace in 1912 while performing a play at the Yildiz Palace Theatre.
With summer approaching, guests at Pera Palace Hotel Jumeirah can indulge in a selection of cocktails with a Havanan twist inspired by Cuba’s great friend, Josephine Baker.
