James Bond meets Indiana Jones. That is perhaps the best way to describe the latest offering from luxury travel operator, Abercrombie & Kent, in association with Land Rover. The two have partnered up for what’s being billed as “the most luxurious road trip on Earth” – and with a price tag to match.
So what do you get for US$140,000 per person? An amazing adventure spanning five continents, eight countries and nine world-class hotels over three weeks – all involving the new top-of-the-line SVAutobiography Range Rover. Add in extraordinary off-road activities ranging from personalised fragrance-making classes in the lavender-scented hills of Provence to picnicking on a glacier in the peaks of the Italian Alps.
The first leg of the tour begins in the glamorous Côte d’Azur staying at Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat, A Four Seasons Hotel, before moving onto a drive along dramatic mountain passes into Italy and a stay on Lake Como at Villa d’Este. Then it’s off to Marrakesh in Morocco for off-road fun in the desert and mountains, including lunch at Kasbah Tamadot, a member of Richard Branson’s Virgin Limited Edition collection. The tour then moves to Arizona and the Amangiri resort in Utah for dinner under the stars, and breakfast in the stunningly beautiful Zion National Park. Next is a flight to Chile’s Atacama Desert and a stay at Awasi, one of South America’s most luxurious and remote lodges. Among the adventures lined up for Chile is a drive to the Alma Observatory, a $1 billion astronomical telescope that can see the ‘beginning of time’.
Finally, guests head to Australia, first to Sydney where a behind-the-scenes tour of the Opera House and VIP bridge climb await. Then it’s off to Tasmania staying at the award-winning Saffire Freycinet Lodge, and some driving through the vast, rugged wilderness for chance to really put the SVAutobiography through its paces.
Says Mark Cameron, Land Rover Experiential Marketing Director, at Jaguar Land Rover: “We set out to design a trip worthy of the ultimate luxury SUV and thanks to our partners at Abercrombie & Kent we have achieved just that. From Europe to Australia, this trip is all about the epitome of luxury, but done so in a Land Rover way – the unexpected, the off-the-beaten-track and the once-in-a-lifetime experiences. This itinerary represents the definitive drive adventure, achieved in the definitive vehicle. ”
Sujata Raman, Managing Director of Abercrombie & Kent Australia, adds, “A&K is delighted to be partnering with Land Rover in offering this, the most ultimate of driving journeys. Over 50 years of crafting luxurious adventures, gave us the inspiration for this expedition, which is packed full of unforgettable experiences. Our pioneering customers will relish the opportunity to explore landscapes, see wildlife and meet communities.”
Priced from US$140,000 per person based on twin share, even though the itinerary is comprehensive, this matchless road trip is fully customisable according to guests’ preferences.
And yes, for the same money one could just buy a Range Rover. But that wouldn’t be half as much fun, would it?
