The Small Maldives Island Company launched its second luxury resort Finolhu on Baa Atoll in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of the Maldives with a series of fabulous parties and star-studded entertainment spread over three days and three nights, and enjoyed by a full house of international guests.
Finolhu is the sister resort of the luxury Amilla Fushi which opened in early 2015, just 30 minutes away by speedboat. It is the expectation of both resorts that future guests will choose to holiday for a few days at each property.
Finolhu has a unique vibe and atmosphere, the result of research and planning by Chairman and Co-Founder of The Small Maldives Island Co, Michael Flynn, and the enthusiasm and vision of Australian CEO and Curator, Mark Hehir.
The playful theme is “retro beach chic” with a lively beach club atmosphere. The idea was to create a resort with plenty of fun things to do in the evening with entertainment and dancing every night of the year. “Not everyone wants to go to bed at 9pm and here you can drink at the bar, dance and stay up until dawn if you feel like it,” a spokesperson told LATTE, and that’s exactly what guests did during the opening weekend.
The festivities kicked off on Friday 17 June when most guests arrived during the day. Champagne was served from 2pm at the retro pool party. However, things really took off at the Tribal Bonfire Opening Cocktail party, with everyone dressed in white as requested. The Cuban Brothers, Katherine Ellis, dance music and various stilt walkers and circus acts kept everyone entertained until the midnight fireworks and welcome speech by Hehir who thanked “the partners, the owners and all the passionate people who have helped create the dream”.
