Innsbruck, the Capital of the Alps, is brilliantly located in the heart of Europe and is a major hub for rail travel through the Alps. It can easily be reached by train from all major neighbouring cities such as Venice, Milan, Zurich, Munich and Vienna.

Imperial palaces or shopping sprees? Hiking boots or high heels? No need to struggle to make the right decision; with a holiday in Innsbruck and its holiday resorts travellers get the best of both worlds, the city and the mountains. Where else can visitors take a designer cable car from a historic city centre that whisks you up in 2000 metres altitude for afternoon tea? Only in Innsbruck. Thanks to the Nordkette cable railways the journey into the mountains starts in the heart of the city.

This amazing experience is the result of Innsbruck’s recently reconstructed Nordketten cable railways, which take visitors up to Austria’s largest nature reserve, the “Naturpark Karwendel”, and to the starting point for high-alpine hikes. At 730 square kilometres, this nature reserve features some of the most impressive scenery in a region where unspoiled landscapes and genuine hospitality live side by side.

Music-lovers enjoy Innsbruck’s free summer festivals like the Innsbruck Promenade Concerts, which fill the air of the Imperial Palace’s inner courtyard with beautiful waltz melodies, or the New Orleans Open Air Festival, offering popular jazz and swing tunes at the banks of the river Inn.

Or travellers can take a stroll along through one of Europe’s most beautiful city centres, which represents the perfect symbiosis of rugged Alpine nature and modern urban lifestyle. Although downtown Innsbruck with its Baroque and Gothic buildings may be 800 years old it’s more much more than just an historical city; it’s also young vibrant, brimming with university students and cutting-edge architecture.

One of the great pleasures of being on holidays is to browse the local shops, looking for something that feels just right, a truly special souvenir able to evoke memories of endless days of carefree leisure. Visitors can now take home Innsbruck’s exclusive fragrance, Acqua Alpes Perfumes, or check out stunning crystal creations at one of the world’s largest Swarovski stores.
