InterContinental Sydney partners with National Geographic on pop-up art gallery

Renowned for championing a philosophy of Insider Experiences, InterContinental Sydney has today announced an exclusive underwater art gallery exhibition brought to life with Tourism Philippines and Cebu Pacific.

Exclusively to InterContinental Sydney, guests and visitors will be able to experience the curated gallery exhibition of 15 underwater photography prints – including the exhibit’s hero artwork, the winning photograph chosen by National Geographic Magazine photographer, Thomas P. Peschak, on show exclusively at InterContinental Sydney from Wednesday 12 October. Mr. Peschak is currently touring Australia as part of the National Geographic Live speaker series of which InterContinental Sydney is an official partner.

Inspired by the aesthetic beauty of the ocean’s biology, Tourism Philippines launched an amateur underwater photography competition with Cebu Pacific, where three finalists were prized with the opportunity to showcase their talents in Coron, Palawan, Philippines. The ensuing 15 photographs support the National Geographic Live Pacific speaker’s series where Mr. Peschak will present ‘Wild Seas, Secret Shores’ at the Sydney Opera House on 13 October.

Jörg T. Böckeler, General Manager & Area General Manager Mulpha Hotels Australia, said: “Redefining experiential travel for our guests and visitors throughout 2016 has been tremendously rewarding. InterContinental Sydney continues to be an avid supporter of the arts and so it is wonderful to see our longstanding partnership with National Geographic Live evolve with engaging experiences and exclusive viewings for our guests.”

InterContinental Sydney welcomes the Conservation for the Save our Seas Foundation (SOSF) Director, Thomas P. Peschak, who will select the winning photograph on 12 October inside the InterContinental lobby gallery. The ‘Wild Seas, Secret Shores’ live event will take the Opera House audience on a world-tour of marine biology from his dives and expeditions from South Africa to the Maldives and Arabian Sea.

The gallery exhibition will open 12 October and be on show until October 31 inside InterContinental Sydney.
