Set in the heart of Rome, the Grand Hotel de La Minerve is the ideal base from which to discover historical icons including the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, the Trevi Fountain and Piazza di Spagna.

The hotel’s history dates back to the 17th century when it was the residence of the aristocratic Portuguese Fonseca family. The building became a hotel in the early 19th century and as its international fame grew it hosted many important guests including politicians, churchmen, managers and artists. In 1990 the Italian architect Paolo Portoghesi renovated the structure adding a refined Art Deco touch.

Its position at the centre of Rome makes it one of the top hotel locations in Italy. Named after the scenic Minerva square where Gian Lorenzo Bernini’s “Pulcin della Minerva” monument stands, the hotel is inspired by both Egyptian and Baroque art. It features a number of sculptures by Rinaldo Rinaldi, a pupil of Antonio Canova’s artistic school.

Today the hotel is considered a great expression of style, luxury and quality. A member of WorldHotels, it offers 135 rooms (Superior, Deluxe, Junior Suite and Suite). The hotel boasts multiple meeting rooms (catering for up to 120 persons), banqueting and cocktail facilities and terrace with a panoramic view of Rome. The terrace is home to the Minerva Roof Garden Restaurant and Bar where guests can enjoy a delicious à la carte meal featuring international and Mediterranean cuisine while overlooking the Pantheon, the dome of St. Ivo church and the Quirinale.

Art, culture and history permeates each space: for instance, Ferdinand Gregorius set his masterpiece “Diari Romani” in the hotel, while Stendhal and George Sand stayed there during their Grand Tour in Italy and statues by Rinaldo Rinaldi are scattered throughout the common areas.

The Grand Hotel de la Minerve hides many surprises, making it an ideal setting for a weekend stay as well as for longer holidays in the city. Upon request limousine transfer services, beauty experiences and private tours in “hidden ancient Rome” can all be arranged.
