Nestled between the forest and hot springs of Bagaces in Costa Rica is Rio Perdido Hotel & Thermal River, the centrepiece of a private 242-hectare reserve, and dedicated to those who seek natural wellness and natural adventures.
Guests can relax and rejuvenate as they hike, bike, bathe in the thermal river and forest, glide down a zipline or tube in the river. Begin and end the day with cuisine inspired by local traditions and made with fresh, local ingredients.
Guests lodge in 20 bungalows that are suspended above the ground. Access to the bungalows is served via elevated pathways that connect to general circulation pathways and hiking trails.
The modular build-style of the bungalows serves to ensure minimal environmental impact. The unit’s shell is composed of steel and light walls of a strong and inert composition. Details include fine wood accents, stainless steel, nylon rope and polished concrete floors.
Natural wellness and adventures
Specialising in wellness treatments and adventures that use their natural surroundings, Rio Perdido is known for its Classic Relaxation Massage, a 50-minute Swedish treatment designed to relieve stress. For those that are looking for a more immersive, purifying route, opt for Rio Perdido’s signature volcanic mud treatment. To the south of the main thermal canyon is a hot river pool that is designated specifically to the treatment. The mud, which contains natural compounds such as sulphur, must be requested at reception in advance.
For those that enjoy both exercise and relaxation, a visit to the Medicinal Spring is a must. Follow the 2.5-kilometre-long flat rail, which takes hikers beyond the Yurro Waterfall, through the Miravalles dry forest and then to even more springs and streams. Dip your toe into the spring, which old-time residents of the Montano and Santa Fe areas consider to have healing properties.
