Park City, Utah lays claim to a world of snow, including Park City Mountain Resort – the largest ski resort in the US – and Deer Valley Resort, voted the US’ Best Ski Resort every year between 2013 and 2017 at the World Ski Awards.
To share what’s new for the upcoming 2018-19 winter season, Park City Chamber/Convention & Visitors Bureau and its partners hosted a media lunch at underground Sydney bar, Door Knock. The cosy, lodge-style interiors were the perfect match for an afternoon of cocktail making (see recipe below) and attempting to carve spheres of ice, over which guests enjoyed Park City’s own High West whiskey, the world’s only ski-in whiskey distillery.
Esthur Checksfield, International Sales & Marketing Manager, Park City Chamber/CVB was joined by Park City Mountain Resort (Vail Resorts) International Sales Manager, Brenda Lytle, Deer Valley Resort (Alterra Mountain Company) Senior Tour & Travel/International Manager, Marilyn Stinson, Ski Utah VP Marketing & Operations, Raelene Davis, Stein Collection Associate Director of Leisure Sales, Tyler Landers, Utah Office of Tourism (Canuckiwi) Media Manager, Joanne Motta, and the in-market representative team for Park City Chamber from GTI Tourism.
Park City is central to both Park City Mountain Resort and Deer Valley Resort and is located a 35-minute drive from Salt Lake City International Airport. As well as skiing and snowboarding, it offers 150 dining options, shopping opportunities, easy transfers to the slopes and, of course, the aforementioned High West Whiskey Distillery.
Brenda shared news of Park City Mountain Resort’s investment in on-mountain dining, including expanding and improving Cloud Dine Restaurant and the Mid-mountain Lodge, and beginner terrain/family zone with a high-speed lift on the Canyons Village side of the resort. In accommodation, Vail Resorts has recently invested US$15 million in Grand Summit, making it part of the premium RockResorts collection.
Marilyn from Deer Valley was pleased to say that the skier-only resort is consistently rated the best in the US for guest service and dining, offering specialist services guests would only expect of a five-star hotel. Stein Eriksen Lodge of the Stein Collection is in the midst of an expansion that has already seen it open a theatre and a coffee bar while expanding the ski locker room (the resort is known for its team of ski valets). Other developments to come before the opening of the 2018-19 winter season include the Champions Club Entertainment Center and a family-friendly pool. Stein Eriksen Lodge has also been awarded the US’ Best Ski Hotel (2014, 2015, 2016) and the World’s Best Ski Hotel (2014, 2015) at the World Ski Awards.
Guests dined on High West Bourbon chicken pate, beef carpaccio, crispy-skinned salmon, porcini beef cheeks, homemade winter spice ‘doughnuts’ and layers of chocolate with maple ice-cream, accompanied by Door Knock’s exceptional cocktails.
