One of Australia’s most popular chefs, Anna Gare, cruises Europe’s waterways with Channel Nine’s weekly travel show, Getaway and Scenic Luxury Cruises and Tours, discovering the tastes and delights of some of Europe’s most stunning cities over the next three weeks.
The telecast follow Anna’s journeys with three half-hour episodes, Saturday 18, 25 August and 1 September 2018.
Gare’s European journey commences in Budapest where she boards the Scenic Space-Ship Scenic Ruby and cruises through four countries from Hungary to the Netherlands along the Danube, Rhine and Main rivers.
Along the way Gare visits the Central Market Hall in Budapest where she samples local salami, the traditional “langos”, goulash, and is in raptures over the varieties of paprika available. In Vienna, Anna learns the art of a true Viennese Strudel and of course, samples the city’s other favourite dish, the schnitzel, at one of Vienna’s most famous schnitzel restaurants.
Travelling along the Main River to Germany, Gare samples fresh sheep’s milk ice-cream, the traditional German sausage at the Hole in Wall Sausage Kiosk, and then onto the famous sausage kitchen in Regensburg before a hands-on gingerbread cooking class in Nuremberg, complete with the all important taste-testing.
Smoked beer, traditional German pastries and bratwursts, local wines, coffee in Rüdesheim complete with a shot of local brandy, a medieval banquet, rich homemade rye breads, pork knuckle, waffles with caramel sauce and Dutch herring – all topped off with a selection of up to four dining options feature every night on board Scenic Ruby.
Anna’s journey with Scenic ends in Amsterdam after 15 days experiencing the charming old towns and restored castles that still stand from atop hillsides, and enjoying all the tastes and cultures of modern day Europe.
The episodes are centred around Scenic’s Jewels of Europe itinerary.
