Australia’s “First Lady” of cruising, Sarina Bratton, has been confirmed as the dignitary joining Ponants “Chairman’s Cruise” to Papua New Guinea in the first half of 2020.

Bratton spearheads the international development of the French luxury expedition cruise ship company, with a specific focus on the Asia Pacific region. Her business acumen has led to several senior board directorships within Australian state and federal governments, along with numerous accolades including the 2006 the Veuve Clicquot Business Woman of the Year Award, and in 2008, the E&Y NSW Entrepreneur of the Year award in the Services category recognising her entrepreneurship and vision. Bratton also founded Orion Expedition Cruises in 2004.

The 17-day Chairmans’ Cruise – New Guinea Odyssey is scheduled for departure from Cairns on 22 April 2020 aboard the luxury expedition vessel, Le Laperouse, returning to Darwin on 8 May 2020.

This voyage sails along the north coast of New Guinea and will include calls at Tufi, dubbed the “Scandinavia of the Tropics” due to its fjords and lush mangrove forests, where guests will be welcomed by Papuan tribes.

In the village of Kopar, situated at the mouth of the Sepik River, guests will be welcomed with cultural performances and will witness life in a traditional village.

The voyage then sails across Western New Guinea, where guests will experience the spectacular Cenderawasih Bay, with an unforgettable opportunity to swim with whale sharks.

Further west, spend time in the Bird’s Head Seascape at the heart of the famous Coral Triangle with some of the highest coral biodiversity on the planet.

Before disembarking in Darwin, you will experience the ‘Spice Islands’ – the Moluccas, visiting the charming Banda Neira, offering rich colonial history and a snorkelling possibility.

Only limited cabins remain on the one-off voyage, starting at Privilege Suites on Deck 5 and 6 priced from AU$34,330 per person twin share.
