Located on a 28,000-hectare outback property, guests staying at Mt Mulligan Lodge will be able to experience the spirit of North Queensland’s backcountry through a unique landscape and a place where people have lived and worked for tens of thousands of years. The new lodge will soft open in late December/early January.

The majestic Mount Mulligan, composed of conglomerate and sandstone, boasts a spectacular 18-kilometre ridge and is one of Far North Queensland’s biggest hidden secrets.

The mountain is a heritage site with Indigenous significance dating back 37,000 years. The expansive property bears the marks of the historic gold and coal rush and, in its current operation as a working cattle station, the pastoral history of Australia.

Mt Mulligan Lodge is an all-inclusive luxury lodge surrounded by breathtaking rugged terrain which meets a sparkling weir bordered by gum trees. The lodge accommodates just 16 guests at one time and features eight luxury suites, a beautiful pavilion for meals and relaxation, an infinity pool and a sunset bar. Each room at Mt Mulligan Lodge is assigned its own ATV for self-guided tours.

Guests will be able to enjoy chef-prepared gourmet meals and a curated wine list, celebrating the best of wine from Australia and beyond.

A range of activities includes guided tours of the Hodgkinson Goldfield, with demonstrations of the working 19th-century 10-headed crusher at Tyrconnell, self-guided journeys through the historic Mount Mulligan coal mine and town, wildlife spotting, stargazing and the chance to experience the day-to-day operations of a working cattle station.

The new lodge is the latest offering by Northern Escape Collection, which also operates the Orpheus Island Lodge and Daintree Ecolodge. In keeping with the sustainability values across the Northern Escape Collection, the resort is environmentally friendly, running on solar power, energy-efficient fittings and adopting sustainable building design methods.

The lodge is accessible via a scenic35-minutee helicopter trip from Cairns serviced by Nautilus Aviation, providing a birds’-eye view of the changing landscape from reef to rainforest and the outback. For those travelling by road, Mt Mulligan Station is a 2.5-hour 4WD adventure from Cairns through rugged outback. In 2019, Northern Escape Collection will be offering bespoke itineraries exploring some of the world’s most unique natural wonders, connecting Mt Mulligan Station to Daintree Ecolodge, Orpheus Island Lodge and luxury motor yacht, MY Flying Fish.

Mt Mulligan Station is open for bookings now. The property will close in early January for the green season, reopening on 2 March 2019.
