Silversea Cruises’ guests continue to enjoy a range of enrichments aboard the Tale of Tales World Cruise 2019, including a range of enrichment events such as fascinating lectures from the voyage’s esteemed ‘Tale Tellers’. Pico Iyer, Saroo Brierley, Harold Koda and Laksmi Pamuntjak have each joined the Tale of Tales for one segment so far, delivering insightful talks, socialising with guests and contributing a chapter to the Tale of Tales anthology. Silver Whisper is currently unlocking deep travel experiences for guests on the World Cruise’s fourth segment between Bali and Tokyo.
Pico Iyer was the first to join the Tale of Tales World Cruise 2019, embarking in San Francisco at the start of the voyage and travelling as far as Papeete in Tahiti. Referred to by some as “arguably the world’s greatest living travel writer,” Pico Iyer delivered a well-received lecture entitled ‘The World We Seldom See,’ adapted from one of the author’s three TED Talks, which was followed by a Q&A session with guests. A relaxed social event in the Panorama Lounge followed, in which guests were able to interact with Iyer over cocktails. The Oxford and Harvard graduate also hosted dinners with guests, the Captain and Senior Officers.
Next, on board between Tahiti and Sydney, Australian Tale Teller Saroo Brierley shared his remarkable childhood experience with guests. A born storyteller, Brierley boarded a train in India at the age of five and lost his family for two and a half decades. First portrayed through a novel, Brierley’s incredible story was adapted into an Oscar-nominated film, Lion. Guests were enthralled by the Tale Teller’s visceral account and took the opportunity to learn more in a Q&A session. Subsequently, the blockbuster film was screened in Silver Whisper’s Venetian Lounge, and guests again took the chance to pose their questions to Brierley. A book signing was also held.
Joining the World Cruise from Sydney to Bali, Tale Teller Harold Koda delighted guests with a lecture entitled ‘Inconstant Beauty: Allure Across Cultures’ in the ship’s Venetian Lounge. The world authority on costume studies shared insight into how we communicate through fashion and gave global examples, before interacting with guests at length. A social event was also held in the Panorama Lounge, which enabled guests to personally meet the Tale Teller in a relaxed environment. Koda was also available for table hosting with guests, the Captain and Senior Officers, as guests sampled fine cuisine from sailed destinations.
Tale Teller Laksmi Pamuntjak is currently sailing aboard Silver Whisper, having boarded in Bali. An award-winning novelist, poet, food writer and successful journalist, Pamuntjak shared her thoughts on ‘Poetry, History, and the Sea,’ in a talk that guests thoroughly enjoyed. Guests also relished the opportunity to meet the Tale Teller after the event.
Soon joining Silver Whisper for the Tale of Tales World Cruise 2019, Tale Tellers Steve McCurry, Jeremiah Tower, Paul Theroux, Sophy Roberts and Tahir Shah will also share their unique creative insights with Silversea’s guests to enrich the cruising experience.
In addition to a hugely successful pre-voyage gala dinner, Silversea’s world-cruising guests have enjoyed a varied range of deep travel experiences as part of an immersive enrichment program. Both on board Silver Whisper and in sailed destinations, guests have witnessed cultural performances that reflect the authentic beauty of the world. At the famous Sydney Opera House, guests enjoyed an operatic performance of La Bohème, followed by entertainment; in Marquesas in French Polynesia, local performers wearing traditional dress put on an indigenous cultural show for guests, which included the iconic Aparima and Haka dances; and at the Musée de Tahiti, another cultural performance entitled ‘Greeting the Tahitian Gods’ showcased the talents of local performers.
