Aurora Expeditions has confirmed an agreement with shipbuilder SunStone to build a second X-Bow expedition ship, for delivery in spring 2021. Plans for the second ship were detailed earlier this year by Aurora’s Managing Director Robert Halfpenny earlier this year.
Sister ship to the soon-to-be-launched Greg Mortimer, the second purpose-built expedition vessel will be similar in design and feature the industry-transforming X-Bow technology that’s destined to reduce emissions and make sea crossing gentler.
“Our demand has been phenomenal; with a virtually sold out upcoming Antarctica 19/20 season and at 60% capacity already for the Antarctica 20/21 season, we are excited at the prospect of being able to offer more capacity to the market,” Halfpenny said.
“We have been forced to turn away some passengers who are eager to join Aurora Expeditions onboard the Greg Mortimer, so we are delighted to offer our customers another great ship,” he added.
The yet-to-be-named ship will launch out of Ushuaia in spring 2021, ahead of the 2021/22 Antarctic season. News on the new name will be released shortly.
