Fiji Airways is now offering premium passengers the opportunity to dine at the airline’s lounge before boarding their flight home. Dubbed ‘Dine on the Ground’, the two-pronged initiative aims to reduce inflight food wastage and enable passengers more time to rest in the air.
Available on select routes out of Nadi International Airport, the new pre-flight “gourmet meal” service will be available for guests on a morning or late evening flight at Fiji Airways’ Premier Lounge.
Prior to boarding, Business Class and Premier passengers will enjoy made-to-order breakfast items, a full bakery, fresh juices and barista-made coffee for breakfast, and signature dishes, cocktails, mocktails and a full service bar for dinner.
Fiji Airways’ Managing Director and CEO, Andre Viljoen, said that the ‘Dine on the Ground’ service comes following research on food consumption, sleep patterns and passenger feedback. Nearly one-third of Australian travellers regularly skip in-flight meals, in preference for more sleep time.
“As an airline, Fiji Airways is all about delivering the best customer experience…By moving the dining experience pre-flight, we’re not only able to offer a premium experience but we’re also able to reduce food waste, while maintaining our excellent in-flight catering,” Viljoen said.
Onboard, guests will still have access to a light brunch or supper, such as fruit bowls, gourmet panini, fresh salads, international style tapas and soups. However, by dining pre-flight, onboard meals better reflect the time of day and allow guests more time for rest and relaxation.
