Why Hayman Island by InterContinental makes an ideal luxury family escape

Think Hayman Island by InterContinental and immediately the destination conjures up visions of couples, romance and relaxation. But the newly reopened luxury retreat on the Queensland Whitsundsays is also a haven for families, offering a location of solitude where mum and dad can unwind and reconnect with the kids in a luxurious setting.

Hayman Island by InterContinental General Manager, Mark Eletr says the newly reopened resort is a place to find sacred moments of connection with family, friends and yourself.

“That’s the resort’s premise, and it’s reflected throughout each element of our guest experience,” Eletr explains.

“We have our Planet Trekkers Kids Club and our dedicated babysitting program inviting parents to balance family time with sacred couples alone time, whether that be an hour by the pool or indulging in a romantic private dining experience. Then we have plenty of activities designed to bring the whole family together including dinners in Amici, charter and helicopter tours across the Great Barrier Reef, Blue Pearl Bay snorkelling escapades, fish feeding in the morning time, complimentary beachfront activities including kayaking, windsurfing, sailing and more. And that’s just a few examples that come to mind,” Eletr tells LATTE.

Unique experiences abound at Hayman Island by InterContinental. The retreat’s on-water partner, Ocean Dynamics, has unlocked a range of incredible experiences across the Great Barrier Reef, including glass-bottom boat tours and family charters to Whitehaven Beach.

“If they wish, parents can take an hour to relax on their own while the Ocean Dynamics team entertain kids with fun marine facts, sun dial creations and sandcastle building. We also have our recreational centre with luxury tennis camps and various sporting courts,” Eletr said.

Hayman Island by InterContinental offers a diverse mix of other activities too, perfect for making the most of family time. Each activity is designed in the spirit of sacred connection. Infinity Pool moments and picnic escapades to nearby Langford Island bring the family together, while activities such as Father and Son Fishing Adventures aboard Hayman Islands’s all-new dedicated fishing vessel provide bonding moments.

Mother and Daughter Pamper Sessions, including nail treatment and soothing massages at Hayman Spa, followed by a visit to Hayman Salon for a stunning hair cleanse and style with award-winning hair stylist, Cherie Falco, are also an option.

Families can jump on a speedboat and take an Island Escape to nearby Blue Pearl Bay and swim with green sea turtles and explore coral floors in some of the world’s best snorkelling locations before settling down for a gourmet picnic on pristine sands. The Adventure Lounge also has life-size scrabble, a billiards table and a collection of boardgames for when the weather turns grey.

Planet Trekkers Kids Club is dedicated to immersing Hayman Island by InterContinental’s youngest travellers in the beauty of the Whitsundays, and connecting them with their island location. The club offers a daily program of tailored services and fun-filled activities, designed to support children’s growth, curiosity and creativity, while balancing time indoors and outdoors.

Eletr recommends families consider the resort’s Lagoon Wing, located adjacent to the Infinity Pool that features a sand-filled paddling zone, shallow swimming pool and family-sized cabanas.

“We have dedicated family suites along with our stunning two-bedroom and three-bedroom Hayman Suites which have a spacious lounge area and wide private balconies perfect for families.”

Hayman Island by InterContinental welcomes guests of all ages. The Planet Trekkers Kids Club is restricted to children aged 4-12 years.
