Edwardian Hotels London have flagged a Spring 2020 opening date for its new “super boutique hotel” that is under development in Leicester Square. Previously flagged to launch in 2019, the £300 million property will feature 350 rooms, including 35 luxury suites. The project has been on the drawing board since 2013.
The Londoner is a 15-level hotel that will have one of the deepest commercial basements in Europe, with only eight levels above ground. It will contain dual Odeon Luxe cinemas, restaurants, wellness spaces, a subterranean spa, 1,000-guest ballroom, state-of-the-art conference facilities and a rooftop bar area offering panoramic vistas across Leicester Square and the West End.
In May, Edwardian Hotels London secured a £175 million ‘Green Loan’ from HSBC UK to ensure The Londoner is one of the greenest hotels in the UK.
“The Londoner celebrates and captures the drama of its vibrant West End neighbourhood and I am confident that its striking contemporary design, sophisticated social spaces and its collection of distinctive restaurants and lounges will set it apart,” Rob Steul, Creative Director at Edwardian Hotels London and lead designer of The Londoner previously stated.
“Once finished, this flagship of the Edwardian Hotel brand will become the new anchor for Leicester Square, and the platform for the relaunch of the West End,” designers Woods Bagot said.
