World’s first airport lounge art exhibition is on in Hong Kong

Plaza Premium First at Hong Kong International Airport's 'Return to Your Heart' installation

Plaza Premium First is the world’s first airport lounge to transform the lounge space into an art gallery at Hong Kong International Airport.

The collaboration with Beijing Poly Art Company Limited features a collection of oil and ink paintings and sculptures and is on exhibition until the end of 2020. Dubbed the ‘Return to Your Heart’ collection, the display “encourages travellers to embark on an expedition into the unknown with courage and a sense of innocence, and interprets life journeys through a combination of nature, animals, people, and cultural landscape,” Plaza Premium Group said.

“We are constantly on the lookout to bring unique airport moments for our guests to enjoy ‘first-class’ airport lounge experience. We want our guests to perceive Plaza Premium First as more than just a lounge,” said Mei Mei Song, Brand Director, Plaza Premium Group. “The art exhibition with Beijing Poly Art is the first of many unexpected surprises and delights we will be launching in the coming months to transform and uplift the airport experience for international travellers.”

The Plaza Premium First in-lounge art journey at Hong Kong International Airport is available for guests to explore throughout the lounge space starting from AeroBar towards lounge seating area and into Infinity Room, a flexible and private space next to the main lounge area.

Guests heading towards AeroBar begin the art journey with a set of canvas paintings ‘Ocean No.1’, ‘Ocean No.2’, ‘Ocean No.3’, ‘Blossom’ and vivid ‘Koi’ by Lv Shanchuan, who is known for his technique of using multiple layers of oil paint. In the same space that features a comprehensive range of wines, whiskys, tea mocktails, cocktails and champagne, guests are invited to experience a celebration symbolised by the 1.6-metre-tall ‘Revelation,’ depicting a group of people at a rewarding wine moment carved by sculptor Fan Xiaoyan.

Hua Qing’s ‘The Thinker’ portrays a monkey sitting on a pile of books for travellers to rethink the relationship between innate nature and rationality while winding down in the lounge seating area. The ‘Landscape’ collection painted by Si Peilin on the walls of Infinity Room illustrates the bricks and tiles of old Beijing. Rendering a striking contrast between black and blue, Tian Wei’s “Gao Shala” comprises vertical movement and horizontal stillness symbolising the dynamic nature of time and the static nature.

Located near gate 1, Departures Level of Hong Kong International Airport, Plaza Premium First is open 24 hours daily. At a starting price of HKD880 (AU$164) for three hours use, guests can book online via www.plazapremiumfirst.com
