andBeyond has reopened its sole property in the African nation of Namibia following an extensive enhancement. andBeyond Sossusvlei Desert Lodge is situated within the NamibRand Nature Reserve, one of Southern Africa’s largest private conservation areas and the continent’s only Dark Sky Reserve.

The reimagined luxury desert escape celebrates the beauty of its environment and the updated design ethos pays homage to the surrounding untouched desert landscape and maximises the scenic opportunities for guests while leaving as light a footprint as possible.
The lodge extends over an ocean of dunes and gravel planes, in perfect harmony with its elemental surrounds. A central island bar and comfortable sitting room allow for convivial conversation, while a number of smaller spaces offer a more intimate option. The interactive kitchen design allow for guests to create their own dishes and menu should they wish to.
Comprised of glass, rock and steel pavilions, the 10 suites spread out along the curve of the escarpment and feature floor-to-ceiling glass windows that frame magnificent desert views. An enlarged skylight over each bed allow guests to appreciate the night sky.
Each private veranda has been enlarged and reconfigured to allow more choice for private in-room dining.

The brand-new Star Dune Suite consists of two ensuite bedrooms linked by a communal guest area, complete with private lounge and dining area. Designed with families in mind, the Star Dunes Suite accommodates a maximum of four guests, but permits an extra child on special request.
With an average annual rainfall of only 40mm, sustainable design solutions allow for state-of-the-art water-saving mechanisms, water harvesting and recycling systems and photovoltaic power generation in every room. Each building is like its own solar power plant, producing enough energy to not only power the air conditioning and all the typical comforts of a luxury lodge but also the water treatment and recycling systems.

By bottling water on site and using recycled glass bottles, andBeyond Sossusvlei saves a significant amount of carbon dioxide per month, absorbing the carbon footprint of the plastic water delivery truck. At 100% occupancy, the lodge would have consumed thousands of plastic water bottles per month.
