AFTA announces 2020 National Travel Industry Awards

"Truly tremendous surprises" flagged by AFTA CEO Jayson Westbury

The Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA) announced on Wednesday [11 December 2019] that the 2020 National Travel Industry Awards (NTIA) will be held on Saturday, 18 July 2020 in the Grand Ballroom at the International Convention Centre, Sydney.

For 13 years the National Travel Industry Awards have been recognising and rewarding excellence across the Australian Travel Industry through a process which includes nominating, voting and judging candidates, culminating in the announcement of winners at the NTIA Gala Awards Dinner.

Jayson Westbury, AFTA Chief Executive said, “The NTIA has industry-wide representation and a strong history of recognising and celebrating businesses and personnel who demonstrate outstanding service, marketing excellence and business acumen within the travel industry.”

“Whilst the Award format will remain largely unchanged, AFTA has some truly tremendous surprises in stall for Industry. AFTA conducted a survey following the 2019 NTIA which revealed that 90% of NTIA award participants believe the judging process to be a fair and ethical one. We are also using the survey feedback to give guests more of what they want and amplify the things they like most about the event,” said Westbury.

Qantas continues to demonstrate their firm commitment to AFTA and travel agents through the valued Platinum Partnership with AFTA and as the Major Sponsor of the National Travel Industry Awards.

In 2020, Finalists in the judged categories will again benefit from the facilities at the Qantas Mascot Campus as the chosen venue for the judging process. Judging will take place between Wednesday, 10 June and Friday, 19 June 2020.

Qantas Executive Manager Global Sales and Distribution, Igor Kwiatkowski, said, “Qantas is proud to continue its longstanding partnership with AFTA and be the major sponsor of the NTIA again in 2020.

“In our Centenary year, we are celebrating the growth and innovation of Qantas, and in the travel industry as a whole. Together we’ve grown over the years, and next year will be no different as we continue our partnership.

“The Awards recognise the great achievements of agents across Australia, and we encourage everyone to get involved in the nomination process. Our teams look forward to another year of collaboration and partnership in 2020.”

“On behalf of the AFTA, I want to thank the many Sponsors who remain committed to the Industry’s only true Awards program. AFTA has built a strong and prestigious brand in the National Travel Industry Awards over the last 13 years. AFTA delivers the National Travel Industry Awards on behalf of the Australian Travel Community. They are your Awards, so I invite you to take part once again and help us celebrate excellence within our industry,” said Westbury
