Owners of the Get Global travel trade show have postponed the 2020 event in Sydney due to growing concerns over the implications of COVID-19 and the challenges facing buyers’ capacity to book and spend in the year ahead.
The decision comes after more than half of the show floor space for the annual event was sold out, five months ahead of the scheduled run date of Friday 10 July
Despite selling over half of their show floor five months out from the event, the co-owners of Get Global 2020, Gary Bender and Donna Kessler, have decided to postpone due to concerns over the implications COVID-19 will have on buyers’ capacity to book and spend in the year ahead.
Co-owner Gary Bender said the success of the show’s brand was its “very strong ROI for exhibitors”.
“We know, as we work every day in the industry, that the impact of coronavirus on international business travel has been severe and our exhibitors who sell international destinations are particularly impacted.”
Fellow co-owner Donna Kessler added, “Therefore, rather than risking a lower than normal return for exhibitors, we have taken the decision to postpone the show until 2021. We want the best for our exhibitors and buyers and this decision, while hard to make, is the best decision for all involved.
“Exhibitors will be offered full refunds, or secured spots in our 2021 show,” Kessler said.
Get Global will return to the Sydney International Convention Centre on Friday 30 July, 2021.
