Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts has confirmed it will cease to operate its Shanghai Pudong hotel and residences, effective 15 May 2020. The 187-room luxury Four Seasons Hotel Pudong, Shanghai and Four Seasons Place Pudong, Shanghai opened eight years ago.
In a statement, Four Seasons said it was “concluding management” of the property under a mutual agreement with the hotel’s owner, Shanghai 21st Century Hotel Company.
“Four Seasons and Shanghai 21st Century Hotel Co. Ltd will continue to work collaboratively to ensure a smooth transition to new management. It will be business as usual in the meantime and employees will continue to provide the same exceptional service that guests and residents have come to expect,” the statement said.
The landmark hotel could close for a short period of time from 16 May, “before reopening under new luxury management,” Four Seasons added.
The closure, however, doesn’t mean the exit of the Four Seasons brand from Shanghai. The hotelier will maintain its presence in the city with the Four Seasons Shanghai, Puxi which opened in 2002 and received its last major upgrade in 2015. Four Seasons has seven other hotels spread across Greater China.
