Perth’s ultra-luxury hotel, COMO The Treasury, has scored the bragging rights as the top hotel in Australia and the Pacific in Condé Nast Traveler’s 2020 Readers’ Choice Awards.
The 33d Readers’ Choice Awards represent the first time that voters made their choice when almost no one was travelling, Condé Nast said. “So the names in this year’s edition are the ones that brought you comfort, that you still connected with long afterward, that got you through the months without travel.”
Over 715,000 Condé Nast Traveler readers around the world submitted tens of thousands of ratings and comments, sharing their recent travel experiences of the world’s top cities, countries, islands, hotels, resorts, spas, cruise lines, trains, airlines and airports.
Up from its second-place position in the same poll in 2019, COMO The Treasury was also recently recognised by Travel + Leisure as the No 1 Best City Hotel in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific.
The Perth hotel leads the region with a score of 98.87. Two sister QT Hotels & Resorts properties in New Zealand took out the top three spaces in the 2020 Readers’ Choice Awards: QT Wellington (98.54) and QT Queenstown (98.44). They were followed by The Fullerton Hotel Sydney (formerly The Westin Sydney), and The Langham, Sydney in fifth.
Rounding out the Top 10 were Halycon House, Cabarita Beach in Queensland; Four Seasons Hotel Sydney; then Victoria’s Lancemore Lindenderry Red Hill; Lancemore Mansion Hotel Werribee Park; and The Langham, Melbourne.
On a global front, the historic Baur au Lac in Zurich, Switzerland was voted the Number 1 of 50 listed properties in the world. In second was Sofitel Legend Santa Clara Cartagena in Mexico, then the Aranwa Cusco Boutique Hotel in Peru was third. Interestingly, a large number of the 2020 Readers’ Choice Awards’ Top 50 were domestic US hotels. No properties from Australia or the Pacific were included in this list.

Commenting on the results, Melinda Stevens, Editor in Chief of Condé Nast Traveler US and UK, said: “It’s something of an understatement to say that this year has been a little different than others. The travel industry continues to face challenges as we start to move back out into the world but our readers are seeking inspiration and are planning their next adventure.”
“This year’s winners are the addresses to support, put together by our readers whose curiosity drives us to explore and seek out new places, and revisit familiar ones with a fresh eye. All of them under one sky.”
