Sea Cloud Cruises has revealed it plans to resume operation on 17 March, 2021 after its pandemic pause.
The cruise company’s two vessels, Sea Cloud I and Sea Cloud II, will operate a series of round-trip voyages around the Canary Islands and Greek Islands through until May 2021, providing a buffer should further COVID-19 travel restrictions come into play.
Sea Cloud II will resume service first, offering eight seven-day itineraries around the Canary Islands, ex Las Palmas.
Effective 2 April 2021, Sea Cloud will restart its voyages through the Greek Islands and the Aegean Sea. Two itineraries will be offered, both ex Piraeus (Athens), across six departures.
An online brochure for Sea Cloud‘s Greek Island offering stipulates that a minimum of 30 passengers is required on each sailing.
Sea Cloud Cruises’ new ship, Sea Cloud Spirit, was originally earmarked to launch in August 2020. It will now enter service in the upcoming spring.
“Our team has put together a program that meets the high demands of our guests, even if we still have to start our season under COVID-19 conditions, as is currently foreseeable,” said Managing Director Daniel Schäfer.
The flagged date of resumption is almost one year to the day after Sea Cloud Cruises was forced to shut down its operation due to the pandemic. Although the demand for the extraordinary sea voyages on the luxury tall ships has been strong over the last few months, Sea Cloud Cruises made a conscious decision to resume voyages later than other operators.
“In addition to our principle of ‘quality over quantity,’ reliability and safety are our top priority,” emphasised Schäfer. For the start of the season, the cruising company has taken all COVID-19 safety and hygiene measures into account.
Sea Cloud Cruises made a conscious decision to offer only round trips for the start of the season, and not the usual trips with different ports of departure and destination: “In the event that there will be COVID-19 related restrictions for a longer period of time in the coming year, we can already meet all applicable requirements from the moment we arrive,” added Schäfer.
Early bookings discounts are available on both vessels until 31 January 2021.
