IHG reveals second Kimpton Hotel for Spain

Continued European growth for IHG's luxury portfolio

IHG’s Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants will expand their brand’s presence in Spain with the addition of a luxury hotel in Mallorca.

Kimpton Mallorca joins Kimpton Vividora Hotel which launched in Barcelona in early 2020 before the coronavirus pandemic took hold.

The 79-room Kimpton Mallorca boutique hotel will be nestled next to one of the island’s most renowned golf courses, Santa Ponsa Golf. Less than 30 minutes from Palma de Mallorca airport, the golf course was previously the home of Santa Ponsa Country Club. But the country club closed its doors at the end of October 2020.

The site will undergo a major refurbishment and extension to bring Kimpton’s inspired design to life against the backdrop of hills and treelined lanes that criss-cross the south-west of the island.

Kimpton Mallorca will bring the brand’s distinctly laid-back approach to luxury to the island as a perfect complement to Mallorca’s easy-chic styling and hospitality.

Guests will be able to relax with a choice of two outdoor pools, one of which will offer direct access to the beach, an indoor pool, tennis courts, a yoga studio and a spa with 16 treatment rooms.

“We all know that 2020 has been a year of missed holidays and, as soon as people are able to travel again, they will be looking for experiences steeped in meaningful human connection and in destinations rich in culture and natural beauty; both of which will be abundant at Kimpton Mallorca,” Karin Sheppard, SVP, Managing Director, Europe at IHG said.

“With this signing, we are expanding our offering to the luxury traveller and adding to our strong pipeline of luxury hotels and resorts in Europe over the next few years.

“I’m particularly delighted to see the expansion of our luxury portfolio in Southern Europe, home to so many popular leisure destinations. We already have a strong presence in both the mainstream and upscale segments and are now delighted to be expanding our presence in the luxury space, too.”

Following the recent announcements of Six Senses Rome, Six Senses Antognolla and InterContinental Rome, Kimpton Mallorca is the latest addition to IHG’s growing luxury portfolio in Europe. IHG has 44 luxury hotels in Europe, with another 17 luxury hotels in the pipeline to open in the next 3-5 years.
