A trendy Australian 80s style hotel that bills itself as “Byron’s best kept secret” has been recognised in Condé Nast’s Traveler‘s just released Best New Hotels in the World “Hot List” for 2021.

The Sunseeker has been paralleled with 69 properties around the world, many within the ultra-luxury space, such as new One&Only, Singita, Nobu, Four Seasons and Red Carnation hotels.

“This year’s annual Hot List of the best new hotels from around the world is a story of resilience. Despite enormous hardship in the travel industry, exceptional properties have continued to open across the globe,” Conde Nast Traveler said.

“These aren’t just brilliant places to bed down. They’re also interesting creative hubs, eco-conscious camps, slick stays giving back to local communities and extraordinary hangouts that are drawing us off the beaten path,” Condé Nast Traveler said of those properties listed.

The eco-friendly Sunseeker was the only hotel in Australia to make the ‘Hot List’. While the recently opened Hotel Britomart in Auckland was the sole property to feature in New Zealand.

Set within a tropical garden, The Sunseeker opened at the end of 2020. The reimagined former motel, positioned on the main drag leading into town, is a short distance from the world-famous beaches of Byron Bay, and the hustle and bustle of the town centre.

“Beautifully considered rooms, bungalow-style stays, poolside lounging and an abundance of lush, tropical gardens. The Sunseeker blends a thoughtfully curated hospitality experience with mindfully considered design, creating a secluded holiday hideaway for the most discerning traveller,” The Sunseeker’s website says.

“We have brought together a team of local and legendary creatives to create a holiday experience that is both nostalgic and modern, vibrant and subtle, artsy and tropical, relaxed and considered.”

Other hotels and resorts to make the list included Capella Bangkok, the revamped Jack’s Camp in the Kalahari, One&Only Desaru Coast, and Amangiri’s Camp Sarika in the Utah desert.
