Bookings open for Le Commandant Charcot’s maiden Arctic season

10 Northern Summer 2022 Arctic expeditions now open for reservations

Ponant is now accepting reservations for the maiden Arctic season of its newest luxury expedition ship, Le Commandant Charcot.

Currently completing sea trials, Le Commandant Charcot is billed as the world’s first luxury high polar exploration vessel, with hybrid propulsion powered by LNG, the most eco-friendly energy source currently available.

Le Commandant Charcot is currently scheduled to enter service at the end of October 2021 in Antarctica, where it will operate a series of expeditions from Ushuaia through until early April 2022. The 270-passenger ultra-luxury ship will then be deployed to the Northern Hemisphere for its inaugural Arctic season, beginning in late April 2022.

The Polar Class 2 vessel’s Northern summer 2022 season comprises 10 expedition voyages to the geographic North Pole, Northeast Greenland, Nordaustlandet, Svalbard and the Northwest Passage.

“Knowing the thrill of embarking on totally new routes, at a pace governed by nature, the 10 sailings from April to September 2022 are odysseys in every sense of the word,” said Deb Corbett, General Manager Sales & Marketing Asia Pacific for Ponant.

“Imagine the excitement of stepping foot on lands previously only accessible to the occasional explorer, the shiver-down-the-spine thrill of sailing through the most spectacular landscapes, as well as the chance to meet local Inuit people to share in their spring cultural traditions. The privilege of not just observing but learning from nature, seen in all her remarkable splendour,” Corbett remarked.

Previously the realm of rudimentary ice-breakers, Le Commandant Charcot is the world’s first luxury expedition ship capable of reaching the North Pole – all the while in luxury.

The ship features heated swimming pools, choice of dining venues, spa and sauna, gym, boutique and winter garden, lounge, bar and theatre, plus dedicated expedition boarding and disembarking rooms for seamless shore excursions in Zodiacs and an electric hovercraft.
