San Domenico Palace, Taromina now part of the Four Season portfolio

Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts has bolstered its Italian network with the addition this month of the fabled San Domenico Palace in Taromina.

San Domenico Palace, Taormina, A Four Seasons Hotel marks the entry of the ultra-luxury hotel brand to Sicily and joins Four Seasons Hotel Firenze in Florence and Four Seasons Hotel Milan.

This latest addition is positioned in the shadows of Mount Etna and the Ionian Sea on the south-eastern coast.

The landmark property has undergone a “meticulous evolution that honours the site’s past while elevating every aspect to a new level of personalised service, extraordinary experiences,” said Christian Clerc, President, Global Operations.

San Domenico Palace, Taormina, A Four Seasons Hotel comprises 111 guest rooms and suites, the most coveted of which is the Royal Suite. Terraces are lined with glass for infinity views, and there are 19 rooms with private plunge pools.

Built on the site of a 14th century Dominican convent, the San Domenico Hotel first came to life in 1896 with the addition of a new building in Italian Liberty style (today’s Grand Hotel Wing) adjacent to accommodations converted from former quarters in the Ancient Convent Wing.

San Domenico Palace opens annually from April through to the end of October, with spring and autumn offering milder weather and fewer crowds.
