Guests aboard Scenic Eclipse II will be offered new submersible experiences, potentially including underwater spa treatments and unique dining options, when the ultra-luxury yacht enters service in early 2023.

Scenic Group has become the launch cruise line to acquire a new submarine that will transport up to eight passengers to depths of 200 metres.

Triton Submarines, a Florida-based designer and manufacturer of submersibles, has forged a long-term partnership with Scenic to supply and manage subs aboard the Scenic Eclipse Discovery Yacht series.

Under the agreement, Triton Submarines will supply a first-of-its-kind TRITON 660/9 AVA for the Scenic Eclipse II, which is currently under construction in Croatia.

According to Triton Submarine’s website, the 660/9 AVA is an “entertainment-focused underwater experiences”  submersible.

“With a footprint comparable to that of previous generation dual-hulled submersibles, it offers an interior volume almost three times greater. This expansive, flexible space allows you to curate experiences hitherto unimaginable in a submersible; from cocktails and casinos to weddings and private dining,” the website states.

Scenic’s agreement with Triton also awards the management contract for Scenic’s existing submersible assets to the US company.

“We are thrilled to have a long-term partner in Triton Submarines that will enable us to continue to provide our guests with unique underwater explorations during their ultra-luxury discovery and expedition voyages,” said Rob Voss, Chief Operations Officer at Scenic Group.

“This new partnership means even more of our guests will be able to discover beneath the surface and we’re excited to have this first-of-its-kind Triton on board our latest discovery yacht, Scenic Eclipse II,” Voss said.

Launching in Q1 2023, the second of Scenic’s Discovery Yacht fleet, Scenic Eclipse II will navigate polar and tropical regions. At 168 metres long and 21.5 metres wide, the six-star yacht will host 228 guests in all-inclusive luxury.

What makes the TRITON 660/9 AVA different?

The configuration of the TRITON 660/9 AVA offers advantages over existing, metallic pressure hull-equipped submersibles, which are currently found in the cruise ship sector. The revolutionary elliptically shaped acrylic pressure hull of the TRITON 660/9 AVA optimises the use of volume while enhancing both comfort and viewing.

The 660/9 AVA offers two additional seats compared to the six-passenger (plus pilot) U-Boat Worx Cruise Submarine 7 currently offered aboard the first Discovery Yacht, Scenic Eclipse.

The Triton 660/9 AVA not only offers panoramic views and a shared and equally brilliant dive experience for all occupants, but the versatile interior can be quickly re-configured for a wide variety of premium activities including dining or cocktail dives, spa treatments, subsea gaming experiences and even weddings.

Patrick Lahey, President and co-founder of Triton Submarines commented, “We are extremely proud to announce a partnership with such a venerable and highly respected brand as Scenic. We share not only a natural corporate culture to explore the Earth’s most exhilarating and inspiring locations, but a commitment to ensuring those experiences are safe and professionally executed.”

Triton CEO and Co-Founder L. Bruce Jones added, “As an existing submersible operator, Scenic really focused on the detail of what they needed and expected in their next product. We presented the TRITON 660/9 AVA, which not only addressed the challenges they had previously but exceeded their expectations in terms of guest experience.”

While Scenic represents the first TRITON 660/9 AVA to be acquired within the cruise ship industry, two other units have been acquired by clients within the model’s other core target sectors: one for a private yacht and a third for a boutique resort.
