Abercrombie & Kent locks in Antarctica ’21/’22 season

GOING AHEAD: Four departures to the White Continent from Ushauia

Luxury travel company Abercrombie & Kent will proceed with an Antarctica program from late next month through to late January 2022, offering four departures out of Argentina.

The scheduled operation will mark A&K’s 30th season exploring the White Continent.

Four departures aboard the chartered Le Lyrial are offered, including a 15-day Total Solar Eclipse sailing on 28 November 2021, a shorter 13-day Antarctica Cruise Adventure (on 10 December 2021) and two back-to-back 18-day voyages that incorporate South Georgia (on 20 December 2021 and 4 January 2022).

Itineraries include two nights in Buenos Aires before boarding the ship in Ushuaia.

“Our Antarctica operations this year will be based in a single country, Argentina, to maintain the integrity of our itineraries and minimise any impact on the guest experience,” said Bob Simpson, Abercrombie & Kent Vice President of Expedition Cruising.

“Guests will be required to be fully vaccinated at least 14 days prior to arrival in Buenos Aires, have a negative PCR test 72 hours prior to boarding their flight and complete an online health affidavit verifying vaccination and negative PCR test status.”

“We intend to deliver the same kind of rewarding experiences that have earned A&K accolades from Travel Advisors for decades; they recognise the importance of A&K’s experience operating in one of the world’s most remote places, where landing sites vary depending on weather, wind and ice conditions,” Simpson said.

Abercrombie & Kent will limit capacity on Le Lyrial to around 80%, ensuring that each stateroom and suite has a private balcony.

Proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 is required for all guests 12 and older, along with frequent and systematic cleaning and sanitising of all areas onboard.

At this stage, it is unclear if the 2021/22 season departures will be available for Australian travellers, likely due to international travel border rulings around COVID, however prices are listed on the local website with a “Special Offer” available on all four departures.
