Air Tahiti Niu introduces upgrades by auction

Passengers now able to bid for Premium Economy and Business class seats and perks

Passengers flying with Air Tahiti Nui in Economy or Premium Economy now have the chance to bid for an upgrade in class following the launch of an online auction system.

Air Tahiti Nui’s new “Maeva PlusGrade” platform enables passengers in Economy Class Moana to put their own price on a potential upgrade to either Moana Premium or Poerava Business (or Moana Premium passengers to Poerava Business) up to six hours before their flight departure.

In addition to the larger cabin class, passengers will be able to take advantage of all the services and advantages, including: priority check-in and boarding, an improved baggage allowance, increased miles, as well as all the onboard services and equipment dedicated to the premium classes of travel. For Poerava Business class that also includes access to the Business lounge at departure and transit stopovers.

Via the platform, passengers set a desired bid they are willing to pay to upgrade, within the minimum and maximum price range offered on the segment, and supply their credit card details. If the bid is successful, the passenger will be contacted by the airline within 5 hours of the departing flight, and offered the upgrade, at which time the payment will be deducted.

Successful bidders will not be provided a new e-ticket, but are able to print the receipt of the new electronic ticket from the website.

“Changing or canceling your bid is possible at any time as long as your bid has not been accepted or declined. Seat allocation will be made upon check-in based on availability. The accepted offer is non-refundable, non-transferable and non-modifiable,” Air Tahiti Nui says.

Unsuccessful bidders are not able to make a “re-offer” on the specific flight.

To participate in the Maeva PlusGrade auction, passengers need to meet select eligibility conditions including having a ticket whose number begins with ‘244’, with a flight number beginning with the airline operating code of Air Tahiti Nui, TN, and whose reservation was created through the Amadeus reservation system.

Among an extensive list of those ineligible to participate in the auction site are those with tickets in booking class F, R, I, U, G, X and N.
