The President of Danish travel company Albatros Travel, Hans Lagerweij, has revealed he will be departing the company in mid-January 2022.
Lagerweij has been with Albatros Group for 2 years and 9 months and has been a driving force behind the launch of Albatros Expeditions’ new ship, Ocean Victory, which commenced operation in Antarctica a few weeks ago.
Lagerweij said a “unique opportunity outside the Albatros Group” had arisen that he “could not refuse”. The details of his new role and the company he is moving to were not disclosed, however he was adamant that it “is not a direct competitor”.
“I am sad to be leaving the wonderful Albatros team, which has always felt like a family, but I am excited about my new opportunity,” Lagerweij said.
“I am happy that we have restarted operations with Albatros Expeditions, and with our excellent sales performance of the last months, the company is on the right track for a successful 2022 and in excellent shape for the future.
“We have a strong succession plan in place, with some talented and experienced people joining us in 2022,” he added.
Prior to joining Albatros Travel in April 2019, he held roles including President and CEO of Victory Cruise Lines, Portfolio MD of TUI’s Adventure Travel Division and President and CEO of Quark Expeditions from late-2010 to late-2014.
“A more detailed announcement about my new company and exact role are expected later in 2022,” he confirmed, noting that he will commence in his new capacity starting 17 January 2022.
