Chimu Adventures unveils Antarctica with Purpose expeditions

Two departures with media personalities to raise funds for Lifeline and TPCSC

Chimu Adventures is set to operate two exclusive cruise charters in Antarctica for the 2022/23 season, accompanied by Australian media personalities Andrew Denton, Jennifer Byrne, and Adam Spencer.

The voyages build on Chimu Adventures’ commitment to making a positive contribution to the world by raising funds for The Polar Citizen Science Collective (TPCSC) and Lifeline, respectively.

Spencer will accompany the first voyage on Chimu’s 14-day Complete Antarctica itinerary aboard Ocean Endeavour, operating roundtrip from Ushuaia. Departing on 30 November 2022, the voyage will offer a deeper and more immersive exploration than the average Antarctic Peninsula cruise.

A self-professed geek, comedian and author, Spencer is likely best known for his successful stints hosting breakfast radio at ABC Sydney 702 and Triple J. He will excite guests with his endless curiosity and spearhead crowd enthusiasm to help drive citizen science efforts onboard the ship. Complete Antarctica will be raising funds for The Polar Citizen Science Collective – an organisation that creates opportunities for research and public education through citizen science. TPCSC leverages the reach of polar travellers to enhance understanding and protection of the polar regions.

Prices start from $13,555 per person twin-share.

In January 2023, Chimu Adventures will partner with Jennifer Byrne and her partner, Andrew Denton for an exclusive Antarctica charter – Antarctica Unveiled.

The couple has a long and successful history within the Australian media. Over the years, they have both sat in the presenter’s chair of many of Australia’s television programs, however many Australians would be unaware of the couple’s deep fascination and love for the Great White Continent.

Between them, Denton and Byrne have explored Antarctica 11 times in the past. Now, the couple are gearing up for another expedition to the white continent, accompanying Chimu Adventures as special guests on its exclusive Antarctica Unveiled charter, also aboard Ocean Endeavor, in January 2023. Byrne and Denton will share their passion for this destination with around 200 other passengers.

Travelling alongside the duo on this trip will be Stephen DuPont, an award-winning photojournalist, who will be capturing the human side of travelling to Antarctica.

Antarctica Unveiled will raise money for Lifeline which has provided much-needed support during the difficulties of the past few years. Lifeline is a national charity providing all Australians experiencing emotional distress access to 24-hour crisis support and suicide prevention services.

Also operating roundtrip from Ushuaia, prices for the 11-day Antarctica Unveiled cruise charter start from $14,270 per person twin-share.

Savings of up to 30% are available on both itineraries when booking by 31 May 2022, unless sold out prior.

Both fundraising charters will feature an emphasis on onboard citizen science programs. Citizen Science is a way to harness the power of thousands of travellers worldwide to observe, record, and report on natural phenomena. This is particularly useful in remote and isolated destinations like Antarctica, where it is challenging to support long-term academic observation teams.
