Six new members have joined The Leading Hotels of the World portfolio in its latest “Spring Collection” which now boasts 400+ hotels in over 80 countries.
“We are excited to welcome our first new members of 2022. Each year LHW receives hundreds of membership inquiries, and only accepts five percent. Our new members and their passionate hoteliers represent the best of independent and luxury hotel keeping,” said Deniz Omurgonulsen, Vice President of Membership, The Leading Hotels of the World. “This new member collection further introduces uncommon destinations like the Greek island of Zakynthos and Chile’s Pacific Coast to our guests, while also providing the high touch service and individualized experiences that they deeply value at Leading Hotels.”

Beachside Beauties
Emerald Faarufushi Resort & Spa (Raa Atoll, Republic of Maldives): This minimalistic Maldivian paradise opens in October 2022 and features 80 freestanding villas, a combination of sumptuous beach and overwater dwellings with private pools. The resort’s all-star restaurant lineup includes an overwater Mediterranean restaurant, a beachside churrascaria, and a teppanyaki grill. The property’s standout spa rises majestically above a crop of palm trees in air-conditioned tree houses and offers a range of tropically-inspired treatments from ritual Thai massages to red coral facials. Activities include diving, kayaking or windsurfing.

Lesante Cape Resort & Villas (Zakynthos, Greece): This sister property of LHW’s Lesante Blu Exclusive Beach Resort is located on the Greek island oasis of beautiful Zakynthos. Opening May 2022, this new property is perfectly positioned on a secluded beach with extraordinary Ionian Sea views. Guests are welcomed into a traditional Greek village as soon as they step foot on the historical grounds. A centre square was purposefully created for socialising and festivities and includes a café, taverna, shops, folklore museum and church. Traditional Zakynthian architecture is displayed throughout the property and its 60 rooms, villas and suites. To reenergize the mind and body, guests can visit the Armonia Wellness & Spa, and savour local Mediterranean cuisine at the property’s many dining venues.

Grand Hotel Principe di Piemonte (Viareggio, Italy): Set on the Tuscan Riviera, this freshly renovated Art Noveau retreat is positioned over Viareggio’s bustling promenade. Tuscan artisans fashioned many of the wood embellishments and stained glass accents that fuel the property’s Belle Epoque 2.0 vibe, especially within the 88 rooms and suites. Don’t miss the sun slip into the Mediterranean from the rooftop. However, the star player here is Piccolo Principe, steered by a 2 Michelin-starred chef who serves elevated Italian fare, spiked with Asian influences.

Sporty Sanctuaries
Mari Mari Natural Reserve (Los Muermos, Chile): Chile’s Patagonian coastline makes a lush backdrop to this eco resort that opened in January 2022 and sprawls across 21 coastal kilometrew. Six airy oceanfront villas are perched on bluffs and furnished with patios, wood-fired hot tubs, and fireplaces; an outdoor pool encourages under-the-stars swimming. Onsite adventures abound at the property’s horse stables, greenhouses, marina, and look-out tower. Bespoke land and water expeditions, led by the resort’s seasoned guides, include visits to penguin colonies and sea lion isles, customised tropical hikes, kayaking journeys, plus a series of cultural exchanges with members of the local Mapuche community.

Diamond Rock (Tignes, France): With a buzzy après-ski scene and wall-to-wall Tignes Valley vistas, this ski-in ski-out escape opened last December and exudes snow-capped sophistication. After a strenuous day on the slopes, guests are welcomed into a dedicated ski room, designed by the prestigious winterwear maison Bernard Orcel. Unwind at the Pure Altitude Spa, decked with a Nordic bath, hammam and swimming pool. The recharging continues at restaurants Le Borna, where hearty fondue awaits, or Les Cimes, that serves up more elaborate regional fare. Visit the onsite bowling alley, game rooms, and private theater before retreating to one of the hotel’s 64 mountain rooms.

Cultural Gems
Anantara New York Palace Budapest (Budapest, Hungary): Poised on the Danube River’s east side, this grandiose Budapest hotel pairs Belle Epoque-era drama with contemporary comforts. While its marble façade hint at an allegiance to a bygone era, its 185 rooms, dramatic visions in plum and gold, are decidedly up to the moment. A massive courtyard lobby is crowned with a glass pyramid roof. And though the star attraction here remains the glamourous New York Café, where the soaring ceilings and sparkling chandeliers bring in thousands of daily visitors, hotel guests can retreat to the atmospheric spa or the Poet Bar, a century-old cocktail den that once attracted writers and journalists.
