Captain’s Choice reignites European program

Extraordinary journeys from the Scottish Highlands to the Canary Islands in 2023

Captain’s Choice has confirmed its return to Europe with a series of extraordinary journeys scheduled for 2023. The Australian touring company has six itineraries planned, comprised of expedition voyages, a walking journey, explorations and Captain’s Choice forte, a private-jet trip.

Whether it’s to sun-drenched shores or alpine outlooks, each itinerary has been carefully curated, built around accommodation and modes of travel that are culturally and historically significant, and unique to each destination.

Guests will have the opportunity to explore the verdant landscapes of the Scottish Highlands, trace the continent’s westernmost coasts and far-flung islands, indulge in gastronomic feasts for the senses in northern Italy, and ascend the mountain ranges of Switzerland aboard several of the region’s historic trains.

Remote Reaches of Scandinavia by Private Jet

Departing London on 1 July, this 17-day journey will explore Europe’s remotest corners in the luxury and effortless convenience of a Business Class private jet. Discover the hidden treasures of Scandinavia and its remote villages that are ice-bound most of the year; spectacular glaciers, waterfalls and deep fjords; and places lost in time including Greenland, the Lofoften Archipelago and the Faroe Islands.

The Canary Islands & Iberian Peninsula by Small Ship

Departing Madrid on 15 April, this 19-day journey will discover Europe’s westernmost coasts and far-flung islands by small expedition ship. A private charter of the MS Hebridean Sky begins amid the otherworldly landscapes of the Canary Islands, embracing the remote and idyllic geography of Madeira’s archipelago. Guests will also cruise the shorelines of Morocco, Portugal and Spain, stopping to soak up centuries of art and culture.

Leaving Edinburgh on 7 May, the 18-day journey will explore the beauty of Scotland’s Highlands aboard the iconic Royal Scotsman train on an exclusive charter, before joining the small expedition ship Silver Wind for a remarkable cruise around the remote British Isles. Immersion in historical worlds, stunning landscapes and extraordinary wildlife encounters are the essence of the journey, reserved for just 36 guests. On the first evening of the trip, guests will be treated to an extraordinary welcome dinner at Edinburgh Castle, with a private viewing of the Scottish Crown Jewels.

The Crux of the Camino

On 14 May, guests will set forth from San Sebastian, following the Camino de Santiago through lands inspired by ritual and legend. The journey will provide guests with the opportunity to walk over 200 kilometres of the Camino’s most striking sections.

Two seasoned local guides will travel alongside guests through every stage of the walking adventure, offering invaluable, firsthand insights and personalising each day according to individual preferences and ability. Guests will stay at residences of the highest standard, and will savour regional flavours throughout the trip, whilst also indulging in a Michelin-starred meal within the iconic wine estate, Marqués de Riscal.

An Enchanting Summer on Italian Lakes

Starting on the 25 May from Milan, guests will indulge in an extraordinary gourmet expedition throughout northern Italy, experiencing the region’s freshest produce accompanied by the finest local wines. Each destination’s majestic residence is enhanced by its respective lakeside setting. Just 22 guests will share in this exceptional journey, hosted by renowned wine expert Michael Trembath.

Alpine Ascent of Switzerland & Italy

Aboard some of Europe’s most celebrated railways, the 19-day journey will depart Zurich on the 11th June, and travel through the landscapes of Switzerland and Italy, rolling through vast valleys and ascending monumental summits. A group of just 22 guests will enjoy outlooks onto lakeside chalets and verdant pine forests, in a style unknown to the region’s early mountaineers.

During the journey, guests will board the Jungfrau Railway to Jungfraujoch, Europe’s highest railway station. At an altitude of 3,454 metres, the sight of the station’s façade, amid a landscape of snow and ice, borders on the mystical.
