A number of enhancements to Hapag-Lloyd Cruises‘ ultra-luxury oceangoing ship, EUROPA 2, have been completed following the vessel’s latest shipyard visit in Hamburg.

Conducted at the Blohm+Voss shipyard, the ship’s fourth modernisation since its delivery in 2013 included renewing some common spaces and new furniture in the Grand Penthouse Suites, now featuring lighter woodwork and new accents.

EUROPA 2 is a sister-ship to EUROPA. The key difference between the two is that EUROPA 2 caters for an international audience, while the original vessel is geared toward Germany-speaking guests.

“Our two luxury ships, EUROPA and EUROPA 2, have been consistently awarded the highest 5-star plus rating by the Berlitz Cruise Guide. It remains our aspiration to operate the best ships in the world. The regular visits to the shipyard are therefore very welcome opportunities to maintain the ships and implement new concepts on board,” confirms Julian Pfitzner, CEO of Hapag-Lloyd Cruises.

Curtain up for the new Club 2

Whether it’s readings, cabaret or comedy: Club 2, the bar and lounge area with a small stage, adapts to the itinerary in terms of atmosphere and reinvents itself time and time again with a colour and light concept. Warm earth tones from green to violet to brown give the room a sense of coziness. There are large panels on the walls, which are digitally displayed with changing content depending on the cruising area. For example, amber could sparkle on a Baltic Sea route. Club 2 also takes its culinary cues from the trips. The crew serves a signature drink and small snacks appropriate to the destination. Those who want to watch the bartenders mix the drinks will be happy about the extension of the bar with additional seating at the counter.

Knopf Club is becoming more colourful

In the Knopf Club, professionally trained supervisors take care of the smallest guests on board. Here, two and three-year-olds can discover the world and explore the animals of Africa on the new motif wallpaper. Surrounded by elephants and giraffes, wooden games on the walls allow children to train their fine motor skills. The popular ball pool can be used for both activity and relaxation in the future. When it is covered, a sofa is created that invites you to comfortably leaf through the hidden object book specially illustrated for the EUROPA 2.

Improve your handicap while playing: Two new full swing golf simulators

On the Golf & Cruise trips, guests enjoy the most beautiful golf courses in the world. On board, golfers will now benefit from two new simulators that promise to be the best sports and golf simulator experience in the industry today. Precise measurement technology, which measures the ball using infrared lightwave technology, enables the simulation of ball flight without delay. The graphics are so deceptively real that they are amazingly similar to a real game. There is also the opportunity to play on virtually iconic championship golf courses such as the Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia/USA, which in reality are only reserved for selected members.

Conceptual expansion in the sushi restaurant Sakura

While the largest restaurant on board, the Weltmeere, receives a harmonious design upgrade with new chairs, the sushi restaurant Sakura is expanding its range. Technical additions will make it possible to serve other warm dishes in the future. In addition to sushi and soups, guests can then enjoy warm bowls and Japanese specialties such as udon noodles and the finest Wagyū beef.
