Talking points: Grand Egyptian Museum, Elephant Outreach Program in Botswana

Everyone in the industry and beyond is talking about availability issues right now. It’s unprecedented times and we are all experiencing unprecedented capacity issues — both with flights and on the ground in destinations all over the world. With the shift in values and priorities, the luxury market is feeling the pressure more than most as demand exceeds a limited and exclusive supply.

If your clients are looking for the very best accommodation and touring for 2023, there’s absolutely no time to waste. Desirable destinations like Japan and Egypt are booking out at lightning speed. At A&K, we have seen these trends and secured extra hard-to-access inventory to increase the number of departures on our Small Group Journeys in 2023 in both these in-demand countries. If your clients are interested, I urge you to secure their place without delay.

Speaking of Egypt, there’s still no word on the opening date of the Grand Egyptian Museum. Construction began on the museum in 2005 but was halted during the political unrest that was experienced in 2011. Work resumed in 2014 but since then, there has been no firm opening date though November is the latest rumour, to coincide the 100-year anniversary of the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb. Once it opens, it will be the largest archaeological museum in the world. Tutankhamun’s galleries will be a highlight where for the very first time, the contents of the tomb will be shown in their entirety.

Something we are very proud of is that A&K clients have special access and are currently permitted entry into the museum, despite it still being closed to the public. This has been a highlight for so many A&K guests, wanting to travel to Egypt right now, but without missing out on seeing the rare and unique treasures and history contained within the museum.

Finally, I mentioned last time about an A&K Philanthropy project we have in Uganda. This week I’d like to share with you our Elephant Outreach Program in Botswana. The program is dedicated fostering a more harmonious relationship between humans and elephants by engaging the school children in local villages who only know elephants as problem animals that trample their fields. With a new understanding and appreciation for the elephants and their place in the local ecosystem, the children feel inspired to protect their future.

A&K guests travelling on Tailor-Made Journeys in the area can enjoy the same experience the children do, interacting with a duo of orphaned elephants, learning the ecology and behaviour of the graceful giants before enjoying a picnic lunch while the elephants forage naturally nearby — a truly special encounter for all that experience it.

Until next time.
