Following a robust 6 months of return to travel interest, we’re enjoying seeing trends emerge for which regions are going to be the most popular with travellers in the years ahead, and from what we’ve seen, Latin America is well and truly back on the radar for 2023.
This new sophistication emerging in what South America offers travellers with gastronomy and unique culinary experiences is becoming a big focus. The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2022 list was announced in July with ten of the top 50 spots being awarded to restaurants in Latin America, while self-taught chef, Leonor Espinosa, owner of Bogotá restaurant, Leo — ranked in 48 th place, took out an individual award as the World’s Best Female Chef 2022.
Lima alone had three restaurants in the list including Central in number two spot, Maido and Mayta.
When planning my travels, I always look to include one or two special dining experiences, plan it well in advance, secure a table and start the countdown. With journeys all over Latin America, guests with Abercrombie & Kent can have this experience, tasting their way around the continent’s most delicious epicurean meccas. Our own local experts on the ground find and secure the very best experiences available for all A&K guests. From learning to cook, to meeting local chefs and sommeliers, and sampling home-grown drops in some of Latin America’s most spectacular destinations. Our culinary journeys are packed with Inside Access experiences that take you into homes, kitchens, markets and farms to experience the most exclusive gastronomic adventures on offer.
Of course, beyond the food, Latin America offers diverse cultures, rich history and awe-inspiring natural beauty in abundance. For over two decades, A&K has delivered inspiring and authentic experiences across Latin America. With offices in Peru, Chile, Argentina, Ecuador and Brazil, our seventh office opened in Colombia last month. One of our A&K Philanthropy projects we have on the ground in Latin America is supporting a local NGO, Favela Inc. Their work incubates and accelerates a favela-based ecosystem and supports five projects that all benefit the community. Working together since 2019, guests on our Tailor-Made Journeys in Brazil can visit the Favela Inc Vidigal Program — a non-profit organization that teaches children and adolescents the importance of discipline and teamwork through capoeira, music and other aspects of Afro-Brazilian culture — and hear the inspiring life stories while meeting the people making a difference in the community where they live.
Until next time.
