Fiji Airways new CBR/NAN route offers connections to LAX, SFO, YVR

Fiji Airways is set to launch new direct flights between Canberra and Nadi which will offer Canberrans and residents of the ACT, and surrounding regions, a new one-stop route to North America.

Commencing as twice weekly (on Tuesday and Friday) from 21 July until the end of September, the CBR/NAN route will be boosted to thrice weekly from October and beyond.

André Viljoen, CEO of Fiji Airways told LATTE the new direct service between Canberra and Nadi provides another gateway for Australian travellers looking to venture to North America and other parts of the world.

“Travellers can break up their long journey with a stopover in our beautiful and welcoming home and then have an easy connection to cities including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Honolulu and Vancouver.”

Flight FJ950 is timed to depart Canberra at 13:35 arriving in Nadi at 19:40. This connects with FJ810 to Los Angeles which departs at 21:40; FJ870 to San Francisco departing at 22:15; and the seasonal FJ880 to Vancouver which takes off at 22:00.

The return leg from Nadi, Flight FJ951, is scheduled to operate at 09:15 arriving in Canberra at 13:20.

“A stopover in Fiji provides a win-win for Australians. They can relax and unwind at Fiji’s incredible luxury resorts or enjoy the beaches and oceans that surround the 333 islands, then fly directly to North America, Canada, Asia and beyond.”

Travellers will have the option to include a Fiji stopover into their itinerary when booking relevant international flights with Fiji Airways, and if staying in Fiji for under 72 hours won’t be subject to any additional fares or taxes.

The new route was announced on 14 April and was celebrated with a promotional flight bringing the Fijian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism, Hon. Viliame Gavoka, who said: “This new service will provide a seamless travel experience for Australians looking to visit Fiji, whether it’s for leisure or business purposes.

“The service will also help boost tourism and economic growth in Fiji, providing more job opportunities and further driving the industry forward. We welcome all visitors to our shores with open arms and invite them to experience the magic of Fiji.”

With the launch of the Canberra route from July, Fiji Airways will operate 22 direct services to Fiji and offer the only direct service connecting Canberra to Nadi.

Commenting on Fiji Airways’ new Canberra service, Michael Thomson, Head of Aviation Canberra Airport, said “We are thrilled about this new opportunity – the magnificent holiday destination of Fiji and fast connections from Fiji to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Honolulu and Vancouver.

“We are excited to relaunch our international operations, including our International Departure Lounge – offering all passengers a high-quality business-class experience, and look forward to welcoming the first flight in July,” Thomson added.
