On 9 May 2023, Design Hotels hosted a family breakfast at Wilmina in Charlottenberg, Berlin, to celebrate and honour the life achievements of German physician and sexologist, Magnus Hirschfeld.
Linda Cohen of Y Travel is a direct relative of Magnus Hirschfeld and attended the breakfast along with seven family members.
Hirschfeld is widely regarded as being one of the most influential sexologists of the twentieth century. An advocate for members of the LGBTQIA+ community, he is recognised as the first activist for gay and trans rights.

On 10 May, a ceremony to honour Magnus Hirschfeld’s life and his incredible achievements was held in the State Library of Berlin. More than 200 guests attended, among them representatives of federal and state politics. The occasion marks 90 years since the destruction of Hirschfeld’s institute, and the burning of the books that took place outside the Humboldt University.
Linda Cohen and her family were invited to attend the event as direct family members of Hirschfeld himself The day before the ceremony, Design Hotels hosted the family members for breakfast at Lovis Restaurant, located in their member hotel, Wilmina. The hotel is situated in Charlottenburg, where Magnus lived and set up his practice, and just moments away from the commemorative monument to Hirschfeld – located opposite the Charlottenberg town hall.

The event was organised in cooperation with the Magnus Hirschfeld Society, the Berlin State Library, the German Lost Art Foundation and QueerSearch.
