What you need to know about Viking’s Newest Nile River ship

Viking Aton launched just a few weeks ago

Viking recently named its newest river ship, Viking Aton, with a special celebration in Aswan, Egypt. The ship’s ceremonial godfather, Richard Riviere, designer of Viking’s award-winning river, ocean and expedition vessels and founding Principal of internationally acclaimed interior design firm Rottet Studio, offered a blessing of good fortune and safe sailing for the ship. Viking Aton, an identical sister ship of Viking Osiris, is a state-of-the-art vessel specifically built to navigate the Nile and will sail Viking’s popular Pharaohs & Pyramids itinerary.

Hosting 82 guests in 41 staterooms, Viking Aton is inspired by Viking’s award-winning river and ocean ships with the elegant Scandinavian design for which Viking is known. The ship features several aspects familiar to Viking guests, such as a distinctive square bow and an indoor/outdoor Aquavit Terrace. Viking Aton joins Viking’s growing fleet built specifically for the Nile. In addition to Viking Aton and Viking Osiris, identical sister ships Viking Hathor and Viking Sobek, are under construction and will be delivered in 2024 and 2025, respectively. Additional ships in the Egypt fleet currently include Viking Ra and MS Antares; by 2025, Viking will have six ships sailing the Nile River.

Egypt has always drawn curious explorers for its rich history and ancient antiquities, and ever since Viking first began operating on the Nile River in 2004, their guests continue to be amazed by the country’s many cultural treasures. Today they are pleased to welcome Viking Aton to their growing fleet on the Nile River, which allows them to welcome even more curious explorers to this incredible destination.

Because Viking own and operate their ships, no detail escapes their attention – that’s the Viking difference. They became the number one river cruise line in the world by always putting the needs of their valued guests first and will stop at nothing to maintain their high standards.

Atrium and Guest Services

Viking Aton‘s soaring lobby, awash with light, where our Guest Services staff can help guests customise their explorations ashore.

The Lounge and Bar

With floor-to-ceiling glass windows and large, comfortable chairs, the Lounge is the heart of the ship—a gathering place for guests to view the scenery, have a drink, take in lectures and lore, and enjoy local music.

If guests forget to bring something or are looking for a gift or memento, the onboard shop near Guest Services has everything they need to make their voyage comfortable and convenient, plus signature Viking keepsakes including books, clothing, and jewellery.
